Haloti Ngata hopes to start Sunday
November 7th, 2009 | by Kevin Hanson |Although Ravens defensive tackle Haloti Ngata did not practice for a third consecutive day on Friday, Ngata, who is listed as questionable on the Ravens’ injury report, hopes to play against the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday.
“It feels great. Actually, it feels pretty good,” [Ngata] said (of his ankle). “There’s not much swelling or anything. Just stiffness and soreness. So hopefully, we can get it full to go, and I’ll go for it.”
Meanwhile coach John Harbaugh was more vague about Ngata’s status for Sunday. He said, “I wouldn’t [rate his chances]. I wouldn’t be interested in doing that. But there is a chance.”
If Ngata can’t go, Justin Bannan would start.
In their first matchup of the season in week 5, Bengals running back Cedric Benson ended the Ravens’ streak of 39 consecutive games of not allowing a 100-yard rusher when he gained 120 yards.
In addition to Ngata, S Haruki Nakamura and S Tom Zbikowski are questionable.
The following players are listed as probable: LB Prescott Burgess, TE Todd Heap, LB Jarret Johnson, LS Matt Katula, FB Le’Ron McClain and CB Frank Walker.
