Bowe unlikely to be to traded to Baltimore
October 17th, 2009 | by Kevin Hanson |There are many reasons why the NFL is the most popular sport in this country. One of those reasons is the parity that has existed. In 2008, more than 40 percent of teams (13 of 32) won 7-9 games — or, in other words, one game above or below .500. This year, there seems to be a lot more really bad teams, which has led to speculation of increased activity before Tuesday’s trade deadline.
One of those bad teams — Tampa Bay — traded Gaines Adams, their first-round pick in 2007, to Chicago for a second-round pick in 2010 yesterday.
In the rumor du jour surrounding the Ravens, speculation has surfaced that Kansas City, winless through five games, might be willing to part ways with Dwayne Bowe for a second- and fifth-round pick from Baltimore.
“It’s so hard to anticipate activity,” [coach John] Harbaugh said, per the Baltimore Sun. “We work on a lot of things. I know Ozzie [Newsome], Eric [DeCosta] and Vince [Newsome], and those guys turn over every stone to make our team better. I’m sure they are looking at a lot of things right now. There are possibilities, but it’s so hard to make a trade in the NFL. You don’t see it very often. It’s very rare. We just have to see what happens.”
Although Bowe doesn’t have a lot of receptions (15) and receiving yards (181), he leads the Chiefs in both categories and he’s caught three touchdowns in four games. Last year, Bowe hauled in 86 passes for 1022 yards and seven touchdowns.
However, he has also had a rocky start to his relationship with new head coach Todd Haley, who was offensive coordinator with Arizona last year.
And before the season started, Haley removed offensive coordinator duties from Chan Gailey. This week, he replaced the existing receivers coach (Dedric Ward) with a new coach (Richie Anderson).
It seems as though anything can happen with Haley at the helm, but it’s unlikely that the Chiefs would give up their best offensive player. It’s even more unlikely when the player is under contract through 2011 at a reasonable salary.

I read this article but fail to see why the title reads “Bowe unlikely to be to traded to Baltimore” – the Ravens need a threat at WR, the chiefs need to rebuild – the Ravens have surplus players at LB…It may not happen but there is as good a chance as any other trade!

For the record, I would love to see this trade happen and agree that the Ravens need to add a WR threat. I’m just not sure that the Chiefs are really willing to unload their best player, who is under contract for reasonable money until 2011. As the Chiefs rebuild, they should be doing so with young, talented players like Bowe.
