When Fabian talks, other Ravens’ corners listen

October 1st, 2009 | by Kevin Hanson |

Patriots receiver Randy Moss has been kept out of the endzone so far this season, but he leads the league in receptions (26) through three games.   One of the keys to Sunday’s game against the Patriots for the Ravens will be how they defend Moss and Wes Welker (provided Welker plays after missing the past two games).

Except when he faced Jets cornerback Darrelle Revis, who Moss says isn’t a “shutdown corner,” Moss has caught 10+ passes for 100+ yards in both of his other two games.

Ravens corners Fabian Washington, who was a teammate of Moss in Oakland, and ex-Bronco Dominique Foxworth, who played against Moss, are spilling their guts on what they know (about Moss) with the other corners.

“Yeah, I know a lot about Randy,” Washington said Wednesday (via Edward Lee of the Baltimore Sun). “A lot of guys have been talking to me, picking my brain about what I know. I covered him every day in practice, so I’ve offered our corners a lot of information.”

“He’s about as good as it gets,” Foxworth said. “There’s no one way to cover a guy like that. You have to compete, understand that he’s a great player and that he’s going to make a play or two through the course of the game. We’ve just got to make more than he does.”

Moss, who has been limited in practice for two straight days, said of last week’s game: ”I got home Sunday, and I thought to myself, ‘How did you play?’ Because I couldn’t really walk on Monday.”

Welker was also a limited participant in the past two Patriots’ practices.

So, the Ravens could face Moss and Welker this weekend.  Or neither.  Or just Moss.  Or just Welker.  As tight-lipped as the Patriots are about injuries, we probably won’t know for sure until 11:30 a.m. on Sunday.

I will post a full preview/prediction of this weekend’s game on Saturday.
