Marcus Smith is out for the year
August 14th, 2009 | by Kevin Hanson |Despite winning last night’s pre-season opener 23-0 against the Washington Redskins, the Ravens have lost receiver Marcus Smith to a torn ACL for the season, according to Jamison Hensley of The Baltimore Sun.
Smith, who was one of the Ravens’ fourth-round draft picks in 2008, suffered the injury while making a special teams tackle on Marcus Mason in last night’s game.
“You never want that to happen to anybody on the team – or on the other team either,” Smith said. “You want to go out there and be healthy and play fast and play hard and be physical. It just happens like that sometimes. I ran down there and made the tackle. What else could I do? Am I frustrated? Definitely. Am I pissed off? Somewhat. At the same time, that’s nothing that’s going to make it better. All I can do is move forward from here and start working on my next thing. That’s what I’m trying to do.”
“He was having a good camp and had an opportunity for a lot of reps,” said Kevin Omell, Smith’s agent. “He was looking to build upon a good rookie season. He’s disappointed and down, but he’s a very resilient kid.”
Smith had a shot to be the team’s fourth receiver behind Derrick Mason, Mark Clayton and Demetrius Williams.
