The Ravens have released their schedule for training camp, which begins for rookies, QBs and select veterans on July 27th at McDaniel College and breaks on August 22nd. All other players report on July 29th. Most practices are open to the public and the media.

Cornerback Fabian Washington, who’s no longer wearing the “red jersey” to practice, says “I’m definitely going to improve on interceptions this year.” He led the team in 19 pass deflections last year, but he only had one interception.

Tight end Todd Heap also is practicing without the “red jersey” and although he’s experiencing some soreness and stiffness, he expects to be fully healthy by training camp.

Mike Flacco, brother of Ravens QB Joe Flacco, is on the Orioles’ draft board in this year’s MLB amateur draft, which concludes today with rounds 31-50.

Between now and training camp, Buffalo Bills rookie Aaron Maybin is going to work out with Ray Lewis in Florida, according to BuffaloBills.com. Maybin says, “Your mind has to be right to work out with Ray. He definitely has a different mentality than a lot of other folks.”

Ravens RB Willis McGahee says, “Ray [Rice] has been here the whole offseason. It wouldn’t be right, just coming in and taking over.” He goes on to say, “I know I can turn the light switch on when I need to. I’m ready to turn it on.”

Meanwhile, McGahee’s agent Drew Rosenhaus tweeted “I’m confident Willis will have a great yr in 09 & quiet these misguided media critics.”

Coach John Harbaugh will head to the Persian Gulf for a week to visit with the troops. Harbaugh says, I think I’m going to learn more and enjoy it more probably than they are, for sure. What am I going to say to them? I’m looking forward to what they have to say, and it’s going to be a neat trip.”

Fifth-round pick Jason Phillips is recovering well from surgery to repair a torn meniscus and hopes to increase his activity at next week’s rookie mini-camp.

Trevor Pryce said, “I don’t think there are many running backs as fast as I am,” and ran down rookie RB Cedric Peerman, who ran a 4.45 forty at the Combine.
