Secondary Concerns II

It seems the injury bug has hit another of its secondary players. With the trade of QB John Beck to the Redskins, the Ravens were able to add CB Doug Dutch, which will seem an asset after the most recent injury to CB Chris Carr. As reported Carr has been taking most of the first team snaps but an apparent hamstring injury may leave him sidelined.  This may open the Ravens to reconsider bringing in more free agent help. Earlier in the off season they had signed Walt Harris, but now may look again at the likes of Frank Walker, Anthony Henry, and Fred Smoot.

Coach John Harbaugh hasn’t declared Dannell Ellerbee as a starting inside linebacker yet and instead said, “… I think the competition is there. So, all those guys are trying to line up next to Ray [Lewis], and they’re getting tons of reps right now.”

Early 2010 Fantasy Football Profile: WR Mark Clayton

With the addition of Anquan Boldin, Donte Stallworth and rookie David Reed in the off-season, Ravens receiver Mark Clayton will be the team’s No. 3 receiver, at best.  Aside from the off-season acquisitions at receiver, the Ravens boosted their passing attack by drafting two tight ends in the first four rounds of this year’s draft.  And the Ravens have the best receiving running back (Ray Rice) in the league.

The biggest news of this weekend’s mini-camp is the status of (former left) tackle Jared Gaither.  On the first day of training camp, Gaither was in the right tackle spot while Michael Oher, last year’s first-round pick and starting right tackle, was at left tackle.  When Gaither missed five games last year, Oher started in his spot at left tackle.
