Within hours of Super Bowl XLIV’s conclusion, Vegas has its Super Bowl XLV odds released.  BoDog has set 20-1 odds on the Ravens to win the Super Bowl while Las Vegas Consultants (via the Dallas Morning News) have set their odds at 24-1.  Last February, Sportsbook.com set the odds for the Saints to win Super Bowl XLIV at 25-1 with nine teams (including the Ravens) ahead of the Saints.

(Early) 2010 Fantasy Football Profile: Joe Flacco

With the fantasy football off-season barely upon us, your 2010 fantasy football team(s) may be the last thing on your mind.  It shouldn’t be, however.  I believe it’s never too early to look ahead to the upcoming season. Therefore, I will profile every Ravens’ skill player over the next several weeks and try to project 2010 stats and where it would be appropriate to draft them next year.

The NFL named its All-Decade team, which featured four current or former Ravens of the 53 players selected to the team by the Pro Football Hall of Fame Selection Committee.  Retired left tackle Jonathan Ogden was one of four offensive tackles and former Raven running back Jamal Lewis was one of four running backs.  On the defensive side of the ball, both linebacker Ray Lewis and safety Ed Reed were named to the squad.

With the 25th pick in the 2010 NFL Draft…

Receiver Derrick Mason, who is 36, is set to become an unrestricted free agent (UFA) and could possibly retire.  And considering Mason sort-of retired last year, I’m hoping — but not holding my breath — that I’ll see Mason in a Ravens’ uniform in 2010.

Mike Preston of the Baltimore Sun gave final-year grades of C and A to the Ravens’ quarterbacks and running backs, respectively.  Flacco played hurt down the stretch and needs more playmakers, but I agree that he was essentially an average quarterback.   The Ravens finished fifth in the league in rushing offense (137.5 yards per game) and were tied with Miami for the league lead in rushing touchdowns (22).

Friday Night Links

Coach John Harbaugh wants to shift the focus from disappointment of playoff elimination to a vision of the future.  “I want them to understand what we’re building, and I want them to have a vision for where we’re going because if they don’t have a vision for where we’re going, we can’t get there,” Harbaugh said.

Tuesday Night Links

Coach John Harbaugh expects that safety Ed Reed, who said he is 50-50 on retirement, and receiver Derrick Mason, who’s an unrestricted free agent, to return as Ravens next year.  “Right now, I expect them both to be back… “I got the impression that they love football and they want to play,” Harbaugh said.

Prediction: Ravens at Colts, 1.16.10

In the Saturday prime-time playoff matchup of the weekend, the Ravens head to Indianapolis for a rematch of their regular-season game where the Ravens scored five times (all field goals) and lost by two points.

Thursday Morning Links

Saturday night will begin with the Ravens’ running game and Indianapolis knows it.  As DE Robert Mathis says, “If you have a good game plan, that’s making a team do something they don’t want to do.  So that’s what we’ve got to make them do. We’ve got to make [QB Joe] Flacco beat us rather than [RBs Willis] McGahee and [Ray] Rice.”

Prediction: Ravens at Patriots

After the Jets beat the Bengals and the Cowboys beat the Eagles yesterday, we are down to ten teams left in the tournament.  After today, there will be eight.  Although all playoff matchups this weekend are rematches from the 2009 regular season, today’s Ravens-Patriots game is the only one of the weekend that is not a rematch from last week.
